...Microsoft Office no longer comes free with Windows (not even the starter kit) and when I installed Windows 2007 I can't find it on the apps menu? So I have to either pay a recurring monthly fee or over $100 just to use a word processor?

And this is why I use Open Office in a Windows machine.

I paid $3,000 for a PC that doesn't even come with Microsoft Office. I'm so proud of myself.
Just use Google Drive, that shit works pretty good.

Windows 2007 is not a thing.. nor was free office, ever. If you had it installed on your system it came a a bundle from your pc manufacturer.

Use "open office" It's word processor is very similar to word. You can save your files so that people using word can open them. Same thing with their spreadsheet app.

Do you go to school or work for a company that uses MS Office? If so check into either student pricing or employee purchase programs. I got the full office suite through my employer for $16.

Nope. You don't have to pay a penny.
It's free, it's safe, and you can save in a variety of formats, including Word formats. It's got other things besides a word processor, too, like a spreadsheet builder, its own version of PowerPoint, etc.
You're welcome.

I'm not trying to troll you, but unless you are using it to work on the next Jurassic park movie you overpaid.

I just use google docs. Not as powerful, and perhaps a bit clunky, but it works fine.

No, you don't! Install Open office, it's free and it is MS compatible! I use it on all of my home machines and haven't had any conversion problems at all in all the years I've been using it. Here's a download link for you! http://www.openoffice.org/download/

Pages is free on Mac OS. And the OS itself is free now. Still got a Windows computer, but I prefer the Apple model for this stuff
Open Office is legit though. Go with that.

Open Office/Libre Office are fine for basic things, I find. But I encountered some formatting issues when I converted from OO to .doc for a resume (employers and online applications services typically want .doc).

Do you mean Office? or Works? I recall Works (basic word processor, spreadsheet and something else) being thrown into the bundle, but Office was always extra.

There was some "Starter packs" that were free. It was literally only Word, Excel, and I think publisher. It's on my laptop.

Windows used to offer Microsoft Works which was a budget word processor. It wasn't nearly as snazzy as Microsoft Word .
ETA: Ha! I just checked right now on my ancient laptop (from 2009, running Windows 7), and it still has Works. Guess they're just not offering it anymore on newer machines?

If you don't have one already, get a free Microsoft account (outlook.com), and open the OneDrive portion. You can then use the web versions of Word and other Office programs, and save them to your OneDrive account, which gives you 15GB free. It's not as full-functioned as the paid version, but it works. Alternately, a local library should offer computer usage with Office installed, also free.
The next time you buy a computer, try to get a Microsoft Signature edition: It comes devoid of bloatware, and you get Office 365 free for a year, some with 3 licenses.

It's such a shame Pirate Bay is under the weather, I have no idea where you'd possibly find a copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2013 for a $400 discount, maybe on a KICKASS website?
